Orthopaedics

The Department of Orthopaedics at Base Hospital Delhi Cantt is an apex Orthopaedic centre with 170 beds. There are 5 specialists & 6 post graduate residents providing care to the patients. The department caters to serving personnel, ex-servicemen & their dependents. It provides management of Trauma, Sports Injuries (Arthroscopy), Deformity correction & Joint Replacements.

Our goal is to instill in each resident an inquiring mind and a life-long commitment to learning and skills development through critical study of the literature as well as careful consideration and scientific inquiry. We strive by both instruction and example to instill high moral values, as well as an empathetic attitude in our students.

We aim to train young orthopaedic surgeons about the intricacies of treating patients with musculoskeletal trauma, especially those that have been critically injured and/or suffered devastating injuries. Encourage a basic fund of knowledge. Impart several principles of treatment, and hone a special set of surgical skills.

For Undergraduates we strive to make them capable to successfully evaluate injured patients; both isolated injury and polytrauma & orthopaedic emergencies, successfully perform a thorough musculoskeletal exam , critically think and order appropriate investigations when indicated for specific injuries, accurately determine diagnoses of injured patients, formulate a treatment plan for injured patients.

Academics

The subject of Orthopaedics is taught from 3rd to 9th Semester to undergraduate students and compulsory clinical postings in Operation Theatre, Outpatient department and Orthopaedic Wards are done during Internship. The department aims to train them thoroughly to provide a comprehensive educational experience in the management of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. It is the goal of this department to provide educational and research opportunities for those candidates with an interest in an academic career in orthopaedic surgery.

Training

Undergraduate students are posted in department of Orthopaedics for their internship for a period of 15 days.During the posting interns are made to attend out patient,assist in operation,conduct reduction under guidance.They are trained to manage common problems of bone& joint eg osteoarthritis,spine and back problem. PG academic activities : Seminars, Case Presentations, Discharge Audit, Teaching Ward Rounds.
